Diet Restrictions: Avoid foods that require chewing until numbness wears off (typically within 2 to 3 hours). Stick to safe soft options like smoothies, milkshakes, and yogurt.
Prevent Injury: Keep children from scratching, rubbing, pinching, chewing, or playing with numb areas (lips, cheeks, tongue). Remind them that the area is just “asleep” and will wake up soon.
Managing Bite Complications: Self-inflicted bite injuries are common and can lead to swelling, abrasions, or a white/yellow appearance. The white/yellow appearance is a normal healing reaction, not an infection, and does not require antibiotics. Apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly to the area; it typically heals within 7 to 10 days without scarring.
